Statesmen Cap Fall Season by Hosting Tourney

Moravia–The William Penn women’s golf team wrapped up its fall campaign by placing in the middle of the standings as it hosted The Statesmen at The Preserve Monday and Tuesday.

WPU finished sixth out of 11 teams with a two-round score of 689 (353-336) at The Preserve Golf Course, a par-72 layout.

Morningside topped the 60-player field at 623 (313-310), while Alysen Sander of MU won the event at 145 (72-73).

Chloe Jacques (So., Chatham, Ontario, Political Science) and Amelia Meador (Sr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Kinesiology) guided the Statesmen as they both tied for 23rd at 170.

Jacques posted scores of 92 and 78, with her second round, which was the lowest for any WPU player during the week, featuring three birdies. Meador, who finished with a pair of 85s, had one birdie.

Ashlynn Long (Fr., Reno, Nev., Exercise Science) was next, tying for 27th at 174 (87-87). She tallied one birdie at the Invitational.

Olivia Quail (So., South Lyon, Mich., Sport Management) tied for 36th at 179 (93-86), managing one birdie, while Emma Kipfer (Fr., Albia, Iowa, Business Management) had three birdies en route to a tie for 42nd at 181 (89-92).

Playing as an individual, Gabriella Honesto (Jr., Lubbock, Texas, Kinesiology) ended up 53rd overall at 192 (95-97). The junior finished with one birdie.

“Conditions could not have been better, so I am a little disappointed with our scoring,” Head Coach Darin Fisher said. “I am pleased, however, with how we bounced back on the second day. I am seeing some consistency, and we have done a much better job eliminating the big numbers that derail rounds. Now that the fall is over, it is time to re-assess our goals, really be honest about the state of each player’s game and where they need to improve, and hit the weight room.”
