Las Vegas, Nev.–The William Penn men’s bowling team had a pair of solid efforts competing out west this week.

The Statesmen were 18th out of 36 teams at the Glenn Carlson Las Vegas Invitational on Saturday and Sunday with 8,459 pins in nine regular games. Wichita State (Kan.) headed qualifying with 9,720 pins, while #3 seed San Jose State (Calif.) took the bracket title. WPU did not qualify for bracket play.

Francois Lavoie of Wichita State was first in the 238-player field with a 232.0 average (2,088 pins).

Jacques Kaune (Jr., Anchorage, Alaska, Business Management) just missed the top 20, taking 22nd with a 203.9 average. Lucas Perdieu (So., DeWitt, Iowa, Public Accounting) was next with a 184.7 clip (also nine games), while Kyle Clark (Sr., Aurora, Ill., Physical Education) had a 192.1 average in eight games.

Michael Applegate (Jr., Council Bluffs, Iowa, Biology) finished at 202.0 over five games and Ryan Howard (So., King, N.C., Music) was at 170.3 in four rounds. Conan Mackey (Sr., Bray, Ireland, Public Accounting), at 164.8 in four games, Shane Strowmatt (Fr., Alton, Ill., Business Management), at 200.7 in three games, and Travis Scott (Jr., West Saint Paul, Minn., Physical Education), at 157.7 in three games, rounded out the varsity scoring.

Stian Hoff (So., Orkanger, Norway, General Accounting) paced the junior varsity’s scoring with a 200.0 average in nine games. Connor Frederick (Sr., Ottumwa, Iowa, History/Government) had a 187.4 mark in eight games, while Cody Adair (So., Kearns, Utah, Undecided) was at 181.1 in eight games.

Kevin Wesely (Jr., Mount Pleasant, Iowa, Industrial Technology) posted a 183.9 average in seven starts and Jordan Lowery (Fr., Lexington, N.C., History/Government) notched a 167.4 clip in seven games.

Cory Rissman (Jr., Yorkville, Ill., Industrial Technology) had a 174.0 average in two games, while Chris Brown (Fr., Winston-Salem, N.C., Business Management) managed a 170.0 average in two games. Kyle Reese (So., Chicago, Ill., Human Services) had a 146.5 mark in two games.

The JV squad took third in the lower division standings with 8,188 pins.

The Statesmen competed in the Las Vegas Collegiate Shootout on Monday and Tuesday with the varsity taking tenth out of 36 programs with 11,273 pins in six regular games and four sets of Bakers. San Jose State finished off its strong week with another title, claiming 12,748 pins.

Graham Fach of Urbana (Ohio) was incredible with a 269.8 average. Perdieu guided the way for the navy and gold with a 216.7 mark, while Clark was at 211.8 and Kaune finished at 210.2. Mackey tallied a 197.2 average.

On the JV side, WPU was third with 9,416 pins. Adair had a 200.0 mark and Frederick was at 188.3.

NOTE: As of the time of this release, not all of the scores were included in the final results for the Shootout.

Next Up: William Penn returns to action on January 17-18 at the Kegel/ISBPA Midwest Collegiate Classic in Addison, Ill.
