Sixth graders honored by Optimists

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa Optimist Club honored two Oskaloosa Middle School students November 23 as Students of the Trimester. Keaton DeKock and Ruby Johnson, sixth grade students at the school were chosen by faculty and staff.

The awards are given to Oskaloosa Middle School students after each trimester is complete. Seventh and eighth grade students will be honored in successive trimesters.

Optimist Club President Jeff Keep and project chairman Andy Hotek made the presentation of plaques to the students. The awards were made at the club’s regular meeting at Smokey Row Wednesday morning.

Hotek said the students were nominated by all of their teachers. Each student is active in school and community activities. Their families and Optimist members joined the students at the breakfast.

Other Students who were nominated by sixth grade teachers included, Mason Aschenbrenner, Zach Begley, Nicholas Reiter, Alex Hanna, Alex DeJong, Jacob Kime, Tucker Nunnikhoven, Jumnan San, Ethan Tabbert, Robert Foreman, Kaden Seemann, Jacob Huedepohl, Blake Stout, Nick Kutz, and Jaden VanRoekel.

Also, Shaylee Smith, Marta Iverson, Josie Bunnell , Sydney Katko , Kinsey Cook, Gracie Glasgow, Brynn Shaull, Jori Vandenberg, MacKenzie McCallum, Baylee Crawford, Allie Hafner, Kennedy Landgrebe, Amanda Williams, Mollie Rauch, Ayishah Armstrong, Keeghan Haskin, Anna Jones, Haley Lashley, Paige Norman, Mckenna Rieckhoff, Breanni Winegar, Hazel Libanan, Ciara Smith, Lydia Denniston, Lizzy DeJong, and Brandy Thomas.

The Oskaloosa Optimist Club is a youth service organization chartered in 1993. The group meets every Wednesday morning at 7 a.m. at Smokey Row.
