Sharon (Vogt) Jemison, 74, of Oskaloosa, died Friday, November 10, 2017, at her home in Oskaloosa. She was born September 7, 1943, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the daughter of Melvin and Alma (Forbes) Vogt.

Sharon graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1961. On September 3, 1976, she was united in marriage to Larrie Jemison at Oskaloosa. Larrie died on March 18, 2007.

Early on Sharon worked for a short time as a Candy Striper at the Mahaska County Hospital. She later went to work as a secretary and bookkeeper for her dad at Vogt Heating. Following her dad’s retirement, Sharon continued to work for her brother Mike and later her son Jeff at Vogt Plumbing and Heating. She retired in 2004. She was also a dedicated caregiver to her parents as they got older and their health failed.

Sharon was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oskaloosa. She was a prayer warrior for all and she prayed the Rosary daily. She enjoyed looking for bargains on the Home Shopping Network and EBAY. She looked forward to Christmas every year, especially the traditional Hallmark movies that she watched yearly. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother, sister, and daughter. She delighted in spending time with her family.

Her family includes her son and his wife, Jeff and Melanie Danels of Oskaloosa; a granddaughter, Ashley Danels; two stepsons, Larrie (& Lisa) Jemison of Florida and DeWayne (& Tammy) Jemison of Beacon; two brothers, Dick Vogt of Des Moines and Mike (& Mary) Vogt of Oskaloosa; a brother in law, Ray Halsey of Clive; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her husband Larrie, Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Connie Halsey; and a sister in law, Gerry Vogt.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 16, 2017 at 2:00 pm in the Bates Funeral Chapel with Reverend Tom Spiegel officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
As was Sharon’s wish no visitation is planned.
The family will pray the Rosary at 1:30 pm on Thursday in the Bates Funeral Chapel and anyone wishing to attend is welcome.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
