Seventh Inning Dooms NM

LE GRAND – North Mahaska took its baseball team on the road to East Marshall Thursday and was clinging to a 2-1 advantage in the seventh inning, but the host Mustangs plated a pair of runs to edge NM 3-2.

North Mahaska (9-14) was outhit 10-5 in the contest but was able to keep ahead of the Mustangs until the final frame. Hunter Wernli hit a single and double with an RBI. Nolan Andersen doubled and Dane Van Mersbergen and Nate Sampson each singled for the Warhawks.

Jack Kelderman went six innings yielding three runs on eight hits with six strikeouts. He walked on batter. Jaxon Vander Veer allowed two hits.

Connor Hassin and Carter Lavender led East Marshall with a pair of singles with an RBI apiece.

North Mahaska hosts English Valleys on Monday night then travels to Oskaloosa for the final regular season contest. They will open Class 1A postseason play on Saturday, July 6 at Twin Cedars when they face Melcher-Dallas.
