Seven Run Inning Dooms BGM

NEW SHARON – North Mahaska’s softball team got the bats hitting early and often Friday night. A seven-run second inning propelled the host Warhawks to a 13-1 thrashing of the BGM Bears.

Maddie Doonan collected three hits for North Mahaska. Doonan, tripled in the third inning, and singled in the fourth inning as the Warhawks built a 10-0 lead after three innings. BGM scored its lone run in the top of the fourth inning, but NM answered with three more tallies.

In the powerful second inning, Olivia Ridgeway singled, scoring one run, an error scored another run, Kaylia Shipman doubled, scoring two runs, Kayla Readshaw singled, scoring one run, and Lydia Howell singled, scoring two runs.

Jocelyn Pinkerton earned the win for North Mahaska. She allowed four hits and one over four innings.

Laila Morrison stepped in the circle for BGM. The starting pitcher gave up eight hits and nine runs over 1 2/3 innings, striking out two.

North Mahaska accumulated 14 hits in the game. Doonan, Readshaw, and Howell each collected three hits. Howell led NM with three RBI. Doonan stole three bases. The Warhawks stole six bases in the game.

Jeryn Kalinay, Kylie Ament, Morrison, and Shaye Strong each collected one hit for BGM.

North Mahaska will travel to Colfax-Mingo Monday for another South Iowa Cedar League contest.
