Seegers leads Central women’s soccer team in win

PELLA- Alli Seegers (sophomore, Waverly, Waverly-Shell Rock) had a brace as Central College women’s soccer team defeated the University of Northwestern-St. Paul (Minn.) 2-1.

Seegers started the match off by scoring in the 12th minute from an assist by midfielder MiMi Pavelka (junior, Shakopee, Minn., Holy Family). She also closed the scoring in the 72nd minute with her second goal, this goal from an assist by midfielder Abby Frey (5th-year, Mesa, Ariz., Desert Ridge).

“Today we found a way to win,” said coach Mike Kobylinski. “It was a battle against a quality UMAC team who has a lot of success in their league.”

Goalkeeper Zoey Sizemore (sophomore, Omaha, Neb., Mercy), had 3 saves and recorded her third win of the season.

“We got notable contributions from folks who helped us swing from a tie to a win,” Kobylinski said. “We also played 22 women today once again showing that our depth is a strength of this team.”

Despite being 3-0 on the season the coaching staff is pleased more than just the play on the field.

“More importantly I am pleased with how our women were positive with each other on the pitch,” said Kobylinski. “That does not show up in the win column, but it shows great signs of what we are about as a unit.”

The Dutch return to matches Sunday when they travel to St. Joseph, Minnesota and face off against Saint Benedict at 3:30 p.m.
