Ottumwa Elite USSSA softball team, coached by Robert Greiner, hosted their 3rd tournament at the Lacey Recreation Complex 5-plex on May 11-12th. 36 USSSA teams, including a few local Oskaloosa teams, participated in the SE Iowa USSSA Shootout. Over 400 players and coaches battled the 20 mph winds while running bases, pitching, catching fly balls and cheering on their team from the dug out. Spectators bundled up in winter coats and blankets on Saturday and sported a light jacket on Sunday as they viewed the games along the fence line. Lady Dees (10U), Iowa Renegades Orange (12U), Fairfield Crush (14U) and DC Mustangs (High School) all placed first in their age division. Ottumwa Elite will be coming back to the Lacey Recreation Complex in September to host another USSSA fastpitch tournament.
