School Board Welcomes New Board Members

Oskaloosa, Iowa- The Oskaloosa School Board met in regular session Tuesday evening with President Don Patterson presiding. The board voted unanimously to approve the consent agenda. The board next voted unanimously to approve the 2nd reading of the high school open campus policy. The revisions to the policy were verbiage only with no major changes to the policy occurring. The board next voted unanimously to approve an early retirement plan.
The plan would apply to those who had reached the age of 55 and who had served 10 years or more at the Oskaloosa Community School District. The plan calls for $500 per year of service to be deposited into either a HRA (Health Reimbursement Account), or a TSA (Tax Sheltered Annuity). In addition, it also calls for employees to receive $25 per day of sick leave for up to 120 days.
The board next recognized the retiring board members and presented them with plaques. Superintendent Russ Reiter also reported the retiring board members would receive a life time pass to Oskaloosa Athletic Events. John Grahek was recognized for 6 years of service, Jon Denniston was recognized for 4 years of service, and Don Patterson was recognized for 16 years of service.
The board then adjourned and reconvened for the organizational meeting. Board Secretary/District Business Manager Chad Vink administered the oath of office to new board members Charlie Comfort, Tom Richardson, and Nik Rule. The new board then elected its’ board President and Vice President.
Susan Boxler and Laurie Palmer were both nominated for President. By a vote of 4-2 with board member Lin Yoder absent, Susan Boxler was elected the President of the Oskaloosa School Board. For the Vice President position, Laurie Palmer and Lin Yoder were nominated. By a vote of 5-1, with board member Lin Yoder absent, Laurie Palmer was elected Vice President of the Oskaloosa School Board.
The next meeting of the Oskaloosa School Board will be on November 8th, 2011 at 7:30 PM in the George Daily Auditorium Board Room.
