Robert “Rob” L. Potts, age 82, of Blakesburg, passed away on May 31, 2018, at the Ottumwa Hospice House, surrounded by his loved ones. Rob was born on October 31, 1935, in Monroe County, IA, to Clair and Dorothy (Jones) Potts.

Rob attended the Moravia High School, graduating with the Class of 1954. He later attended Indian Hills Community College and received his Associates Degree.

On October 8, 1983 he was united in marriage to BettyRae Lentner at the First Christian Church in Albia. To this union a son, Michael, was born. Rob and BettyRae spent 34 years of marriage together.

Rob was a lifelong farmer. He raised row crops and enjoyed managing a cow and calf operation. After retiring, Rob was a seed dealer for DeKalb.

He was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church in Albia. He was a licensed minister and did many sermons for the church in Albia as well as the surrounding communities.

Rob enjoyed crossword puzzles, being outdoors and attending farm auctions. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Rob is survived by his wife, BettyRae Potts of Blakesburg; his son, Mike (& Shannon Houston) Potts of Blakesburg; 4 nephews: Matt, Dave, and Jim Potts and Brian Bates; a niece, Karen Chabal; as well as many wonderful cousins and good friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Clair and Dorothy Potts; a step-mother, Beth Potts; a brother, Richard Potts; and a sister, Martha Bates.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at the Tharp Funeral Home with Rob’s family present from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. to greet family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 7, 2018, at the First Christian Church in Albia with Pastor Lynda Carlson officiating.
A private family burial will be held at a later date at the Salem Cemetery in Iconium, Iowa.
Memorials have been established to the Christian Conference Center, The First Christian Church in Albia, Hospice of Davis and Wapello County or the Ottumwa Symphony.
