Obituary:
Robert Eugene Momyer was born May 1, 1916 in Knoxville, Iowa the son of William Tolbert Momyer and Bessie Ethel (Stevens) Momyer.
He was raised in Knoxville and graduated with the Class of 1934. Following high school, Bob went to work on his father’s farm. Several years later Bob would meet a young nurse, Fran Furlong, who was working at the Knoxville V.A. Fran and Bob were married on May 20, 1943 in Corpus Christi, Texas, where Bob was stationed during World War II. In September of 1945 Bob was honorably discharged from the United States Navy and returned home to Knoxville. He and Fran started their family and Bob grew the farm into a successful dairy operation. He retired in 1978.
In their retirement years, Bob and Fran traveled extensively, including all 50 states and around the world. In his spare time, Bob enjoyed golfing and the Monday night card club and playing cards on Thursday at the country club. In his younger years, Bob enjoyed bowling and sponsoring the Momyer Dairy Team. He and Fran also enjoyed all the children’s sporting events and school activities as they were growing. Bob was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Pine Knolls Country Club and the American Legion. He played Taps for years as part of military funeral honors conducted by the local American Legion.
Bob passed away on Sunday, November 28, 2010 at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital at the age of 94 years, 6 months and 27 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, John David in infancy and John Kevin at age 21.
Those left to honor his memory include his loving wife of 67 years, Fran; his children: Dennis R. Momyer of Honolulu, HI; William P. Momyer (Kathy) of Kent, Washington; Molly Momyer Fausch (Steve) of Ankeny and Rosemary Momyer Frazier (Ron) of Knoxville; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; his sister, Maxine Brooks Lister of Knoxville and many other family members and friends.
