Oskaloosa, Iowa – The world may be lacking color at this time of year, but inside of Penn Central Mall this weekend there was colorful artwork created by the Mahaska Quilt Guild.

The biennial show, hosted by the Mahaska Stitch N’ Quilt Guild, also included a large display of quilts that were made for area veterans, and were handed out in a ceremony on Saturday afternoon.

The show started on Thursday and went through Saturday when they presented the quits at 2 pm.

There were three vendors on location to provide more information, teaching techniques, and helping those interested in the hobby get a better idea of the resources that are available.

It also provided an opportunity for others to learn more about the quilting guild, learn more about quilting classes.

Quilting may seem like an old-fashioned thing to do, but the skill and hobby continues to attract people of all ages. “In fact, I think it’s having a resurgence,” added one of the guild members during our interview.

The guild currently has 33 members and 2 junior members, and they meet the second Thursday of every month at the quilt shop in Eddyville.

Many of the fabric shops now just specialize as quilt shops, because not many people are making their own clothing these days, but still seek out material to make their quilts.
