Quartet Representing William Penn at Track Nationals
Oskaloosa–Four Statesmen indoor track and field athletes will look for glory in a total of five events as William Penn competes at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships this week.
Derek Seddon (Jr., Knoxville, Iowa, Physical Education) enters as the program’s best chance for an All-American award as he will compete in the weight throw (11 a.m. CST on Friday) and shot put (12 p.m. CST on Saturday).
Currently, the junior ranks sixth in the weight throw at 59-7.75, while Cody Boellstorff of Concordia (Neb.) leads the NAIA with a toss of 68-10.5. In the shot put, Seddon is 25th at 50-6.25; Zachary Lurz of Concordia (Neb.) and his throw of 59-6.25 are first in the nation.
Payton Busch (Jr., Centerville, Iowa, Secondary Education) will also represent the WPU men, running the 800-meter run (3 p.m. CST on Friday). The junior is 21st with a time of 1:56.02, while Tre Hinds of Wayland Baptist (Texas) is the NAIA’s best at 1:51.34.
1,000-meter runner Tarah Alexander (Sr., Cedar, Iowa, Physical Education) and shot putter Meaghan Foster (Sr., Centerville, Iowa, Physical Education) will compete for the women. Alexander takes her time of 3:02.98 into the 3:15 p.m. (CST) competition on Friday. Hanna Hermansson of Marymount (Calif.) posted the best time during the regular season at 2:45.01.
Foster looks to better her mark of 42-5.5 at 9 a.m. (CST) on Saturday and possibly knock off the best throw of the season–a distance of 48-1.75 by Stephanie Coley of Concordia (Neb.).
