Pinewood derby

Oskaloosa, Iowa – There were several kids and their families who skipped Saturday morning cartoons to take in some racing. Wood ‘N Stuff held their 13th Annual Pine Wood Derby Race in Center Court at Penn Central Mall. This year’s race had a total of 95 entries ranging from Pre K – 8th grade and adults in 6 different classes. Classes were 5 oz. and 8 oz., 5 oz. and 8 oz. modified wheel base, 8 oz. outlaw and 5 oz. Nascar.
Hawkeye Cadet Council supplied the Pinewood Derby track along with the electronic scoring, as some races were extremely close. Trophies were given out to 1st and 2nd places, 3rd place received medallions and 2 trophies were awarded for overall speed. Best of Show awards were also given out in each class. Awards were made possible by Gene and Judy Phillips – owners of Wood ‘N Stuff, the Dan Hayes family, and donations from local businesses and other individuals. The following were winners of the day:
