Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa Indians Girls Varsity Basketball Team continues to show improvement as they search for that spark to ignite the team.

The Indians are 0-6 at this point in the season. The wins and losses don’t matter as much to the team as the effort to rebuild a program that has struggled in the past couple of years.

Wins come by meeting internal goals set for themselves as they build on needed skills.

Head Coach Jacie White continues to praise her players for their work and dedication.

When asked about the slow start for the Indians, White said that she felt the team was doing good things on offense, but the shots weren’t falling for us. “That was the best I felt like our offense has looked all year as far as moving the ball and taking care of the basketball.”

White said the game plan on Friday night was to slow it down and play their pace. “I thought we really executed that. We want to limit offensive positions for both teams.”

The Indians had the lowest number of turnovers on the season to this point. “That’s a huge improvement,” said White. “We set a goal for 20 turnovers or less, which is a little higher than where we’d like to be, but for us, that’s a tough goal to reach. Any time we can be under 25, that’s a good night for us.”

The Indians scored 2 points in the opening quarter, while Dallas Center-Grimes put up 14. DCG added 14 more in the second quarter, but the Indians battled hard and added 8 points in the second quarter to trail 28-10 going into the break.

The Phillies of DCG roared out of the break, scoring 17 points to Oskaloosa’s 2 points in the third quarter. The Indians put up their biggest scoring effort of the night in the fourth quarter by adding 10 points, while DCG added 9.

The final score was DCG 54-22 over the Oskaloosa Indians.

The Indians are off until Friday, December 12th when they will take on a 1-4 Newton Cardinals team. Tip-off will be at 6:15 inside the Oskaloosa High School Gym.
