Penn Central Mall Is Christmas Central For Osksaloosa

“Painting with Lights” returned to Oskaloosa this past week.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – Penn Central Mall is bustling with activity as the facility plays host to many of the Oskaloosa Christmas events this year.

One might call it Christmas Central this year, and it’s not by mistake.

Naomi Cochran, Events and Marketing Coordinator at Penn Central Mall, has been working since June of 2019 to make the season a special one.

“We have a lot going on,” says Cochran. The season kicked off with a visit from Santa on Friday night, and he plans to return every Saturday, Sunday, and Thursday through the season.

Saturday brought a vendor fair, and Family Fest, as well as Santa on Saturday alone. Old School Pinball and Arcade brought out the vinyl records and spun some oldies in the east hallway.

This week, or the week of the parade, Penn Central Mall will once again play an integral role.

Monday started with the young ambassador’s contest, and then Train Tuesday returns with the Penn Central Mall train returning to give rides to young and old alike. Thursday will bring a gospel concert to center court, while several other music acts will perform on Friday, which will be kind of a family fun night.

Parade day, Saturday, the mall will host family activities and festivities, with a pre-parade concert hosted by Bank Iowa at Center Court. There will also be a vendor show on Friday and Saturday, and the Festival of Trees will help to raise money to continue the holiday light tradition.

“It’s a lot of fun seeing the kids get excited about Santa and the train rides,” said Cochran. “It’s kind of a fun place for families to gather this holiday season.”

If you are in Penn Central Mall, stop and thank a staff member for their work on making the Christmas season a special one in Oskaloosa. They’ve been working since June to make it special.
