Patricia Irene Simmons, 53, of Ottumwa died Wednesday, May 1, 2013 in Ottumwa.
Pat was born Sunday, February 28, 1960 in Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of Donald William and Carolyn Jean Silvers Simmons. She attended Oskaloosa High School. She later attended Indian Hills Community College and completed her CNA training. Pat received her trucking license and drove semi for various companies for approximately 5 years. She then went to work at Pella Corp. for about 10 years and worked lastly at Ottumwa Cab for two and half years. Pat enjoyed playing cards, flowers and gardening, and had a great love for her cat, “Chester”, her dog “Dallas”, and NASCAR. She was a very caring and loving person and was always available whenever you needed her. She volunteered at the Outreach Center in Ottumwa.
Her family includes her son: Matthew Simmons of Ottumwa; a daughter: Melissa Baker of Des Moines; her father: Donald Simmons of Mount Ayr, Iowa; two sisters: Linda (& Gary) Rupprecht of Fremont and Theresa Wales of Oskaloosa; two brothers: William Edward Simmons of Mount Ayr, Iowa and Kenneth Wayne Simmons of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother and her maternal and paternal grandparents.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 6, 2013 at 11 A.M. at the Fremont Funeral Chapel with Pastor Josh Van Engen officiating.
Burial will be in the Cedar Township Memorial Cemetery south of Fremont.
Visitation will begin Monday at 10 A.M. at the Fremont Funeral Chapel and the family will be present at the funeral chapel Monday from 10 – 11 A.M. to greet friends and relatives prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to the Patricia Simmons Memorial Fund.
