Swannee C. “Pat” Ver Steeg, 91, of Tracy, died Saturday, September 30, 2017, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. She was born October 10, 1925, in Bussey, Iowa, the daughter of Ward and Charlotte McNulty Dillon.

Pat graduated from Bussey High School with the class of 1943. Following high school graduation, she worked at the Tracy Post Office.

On October 20, 1945, she was united in marriage to Nathaniel Ver Steeg, Jr. at Knoxville. Nathaniel died December 27, 2008.

Following their marriage Pat stayed home to care for her young family. In 1965, she went to work as a teacher’s aide at the Tracy Elementary School in Tracy. When the Tracy Elementary was closed and merged with Twin Cedars School District in Bussey she transferred to the Twin Cedars School. She retired from Twin Cedars in the early 1990’s.

Pat was a member of the Friendship Club in Tracy and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, crafts, music, and dancing. She also enjoyed making sweatshirts and sweaters to celebrate the seasons. Most of all she delighted in spending time with her family. They all fondly remember her saying “Love Ya, forever” as they would part ways.

Pat is survived by her two daughters: Diana Robuck of Oskaloosa and Christy Williams of Brighton, Iowa; a daughter in law, Kathy Ver Steeg of Oskaloosa; six grandchildren: Lisa Ross, Dustin (& Hayley) Ver Steeg, Robyn (& Ray) Carroll, Michael Robuck, Shauna Williams and Elijah (& Savanna) Williams; ten great grandchildren: Mitaya, Amari, Kolby Dillon, Kasen, Hadley, Tiffany, Joe, Charles, Kristen, and Kyle; five great great grandchildren, with the sixth on the way; two brothers: Toy (& Joan) Dillon of McCloud, California and Dee (& Barbara) Dillon of Lake Side, California; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Nathaniel, Pat was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Michael Ver Steeg; a great granddaughter, Ashley Lynn; three brothers: Macks, Earl, and Jacques Dillon; and three sisters: Karol McIntyre, Bonnie Kerr, and Harriett Dillon.

Graveside funeral service and burial will be held Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at 1 p.m. in the Bellefountaine Cemetery near Tracy, Iowa, with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
A procession will form at the Bates Funeral Chapel at 12:20 on Wednesday afternoon for those wishing to attend the ceremony.
Visitation will begin Tuesday after 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 Tuesday evening to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to Mahaska Hospice Serenity House or the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.
