Pair of Bronzes in Relays Lead Navy and Gold at Central

Pella–The Lady Statesmen track and field squad started its outdoor campaign Saturday by scoring points in a handful of events at the Central Invitational.

As a team, William Penn placed 12th with 19 points. Northern Iowa took the team trophy with 264.5 points.

The 4×100 and 4×400-meter relay teams, both 100% stocked with freshmen, stole the show for the Lady Statesmen by placing third.

The 4×1 finished in a time of 50.00 seconds, while the 4×4 crossed the line in 4:04.35. The 100 squad included Fatoumata Samura (Fr., Bronx, N.Y., Dewitt Clinton HS), Alexis Swinney (Fr., McKinney, Texas, McKinney HS), Shaniece Dishmon (Fr., Harvey, Ill., Thornton Township HS), and Megan McDonough (Fr., Ottumwa, Eddyville-Blakesburg HS), while the 400 group was Samura, Swinney, Dishmon, and Sade Myers (Fr., Honolulu, Hawaii, Radford HS)

McDonough scored a point as an individual as well, placing eighth in the long jump at 15-3.25, while Audre Harris (So., Junction City, Kan., Allen CC) accounted for four points with a fifth-place showing in the 100-meter hurdles at 15.22 seconds.

Myers just missed scoring points in the 800-meter run, claiming ninth in 2:26.12.

Next: William Penn travels to Fayette, Mo. next Friday to compete in the ASICS-Central Methodist/Susan G. Komen Invitational.
