Osky Girls Get First Win of the Season 54-28
Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Osky girls played host to the Centerville Big Red Tuesday night. That turned out to be just what the doctor ordered, as the Indians jumped out to a big lead early and never looked back. This gave the Lady Indians their first win of the season.
Senior Taylor Richardson stole the ball using her tremendous speed and fellow senior Asia Laudermilch made the first basket of the game. The lady Indians were off to the races. Richardson dialed up from behind the 3 point arch and drained it to a 5-0 lead. The Big Red answered, but it turned out to be too little too late as the Indians went on a scoring barrage. Sophomore Paige Howard capped off the scoring in the 1st quarter with a long 3, putting Oskaloosa’s lead at 21-6.
The second quarter was a carbon copy of the first, as Osky continued to force turnovers. The Indians were hitting the offensive and defensive boards and continued to stretch the lead with consecutive baskets by senior Aleda Renter and Howard. Renter continued her outburst, as she hit a baseline jumper to increase the Osky lead to 27-10. Centerville was still scraping to find some type of momentum as they went on a small run, causing Osky turnovers. Sophomore Alexis Westercamp scored to end the drought, helping Osky take a 31-15 lead into halftime.
Both teams came out in the 3rd and found the going tough. Neither team could take care of the ball nor find the bottom of the basket. Richardson drained a long 2 point shot, which seemed to wake the Indians back up. Osky cruised from there on, as the Indians put a beat down on the Big Red 54-28.
The Indians were led by Richardson with 17 pts., Laudermilch with 16 pts., Howard 8pts. and 3 asst., Renter 6pts., Westercamp 4pts. and 8 rebs., and freshman Leah Van Maanen 3pts.
Oskaloosa is in action this Friday at Pella as they take on the Pella Christian Eagles in a Little Hawkeye Conference game. Oskaloosa girls are now 1-2 on the season.
