Oskaloosa Water Board Chairman Pete Settimi read a statement about the board’s decision to increase the general manager salary.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The board of the Oskaloosa Water Department voted on Monday evening to increase its general manager’s salary to $81,000 per year. The increase in salary came on the heel of months of discussion and discovery. Coon’s previous salary was $64,800.

After coming out of closed session, Oskaloosa Water Board Chairman Pete Settimi read the following statement about the board’s decision:

“After looking at like positions in Iowa, Iowa standard salaries, national standard salaries, experience and most importantly performance, it was obvious that we have been and are currently under-compensating our general manager. To remedy this situation, effective January 1st, 2014, we will be increasing his salary to $81,000 per year. This action is in line with our efforts to retain the best employees that will run this operation as efficiently as possible with our number one objective in providing safe drinking water and for fire protection for the City of Oskaloosa.”

With that statement, Settimi made the motion for the increase in salary. The two other members agreed.
