Oskaloosa Skate Park Ready For Concrete
Oskaloosa, Iowa – Digging has nearly been completed and workers are readying to begin shooting concrete to make all of the features of the new skate park. The skate park is beginning to take shape in front of Penn Central Mall. Workers hope to have all the raised elements completed by the end of next week.
The current crew from Spohn Ranch has been on the scene now for a few weeks digging and excavating the new park. “Bowl” and “Quarter-Pipe” are new words to get use to when talking about the skate park. “This skate parks really one of a kind,” says Anthony Zabala of Spohn Ranch. Zabala went on to explain that there is a mix of precast concrete sections that are made off site, brought in and poured in place portions of the park. The “Roll-In” is described as being pretty tricky, along with mixture of banks, quarter-pipes, bowls and valleys.
“One of my favorite features is called The Taco’, where it will be located on the south east portion of the skate park and was precast. Another element is called ‘A Bent Penny.’ It looks just like a penny flattened on a railroad, bent in half,” Zabala said.
Zabala says that Spohn Ranch has been around for about 12 years and was a leading factor in developing the X-Games back in 1993. Zabala has been with Spohn Ranch for 5 years himself.
