Your education level and where did you attend?
I graduated Oskaloosa High School in 1981 and Iowa State University in 1985 (Degree in Education).
What other training that you believe makes you qualified for the school board?
I currently teach 5th & 6th science and social studies at North Mahaska CSD.
How long have you called Oskaloosa home?
I have lived in the Oskaloosa area for most of my life except during the college years and my first year teaching at Hedrick, IA.
How do you believe your service on the school board will make a difference to the school system and the community?
The reason I decided to run for school board is I have two kids in the district (Kamron – 11th grade & Kourtney – 8th grade).
Some of you are running for the first time, other have in the past or are currently serving, but what moment made you realize you wanted to serve? How do you believe you will be able to impact the school district and make a difference with that?
I hope to use my teaching background to help the school board with any issues that are discussed. With my experience, I hope to be able to bridge any gaps between parents, teachers, and administrators.
I believe that if I am meant to be on the school board then it will be, otherwise, God has different purpose for me.
Now is the time to run, because it won’t be long before they will be gone. I don’t have any interest in running after they have graduated.
Recently at the school board meetings, the subject of the good conduct policy came up. What are your thoughts on the current policy, and why do you believe your opinion is the correct one for the district?
As for the Good Conduct Code, I think it is too long. I understand the process the school board went through to update it. However, I don’t have a problem revisiting the issue because it is a concern to many parents in the community. If someone has a concern then the school board should listen to their concern. The school board should weigh in on the issue and either make changes or explain the rationale behind why not.
