Oskaloosa Fire Battles Blaze

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 400 block of South J Street in Oskaloosa on Saturday morning around 7:20 am.

Officers reported that heavy smoke was visible and that some flames were visible in the home, but no flames were visibly escaping the room.

All available personnel was paged into the fire department to help.

Oskaloosa Fire Captain Dave Christianson spoke with Oskaloosa News about the department’s efforts in battling the blaze.

The occupants of the home and their cat were able to escape the house, which was filled with heavy smoke and flames.

Christenson said that firefighters were able to quickly knock down the flames, but the home and it’s contents are a total loss.

Firefighters left the scene at 8:45 a.m. and the initial investigation into the cause of the fire may be combustibles to close to a space heater, but the investigation is ongoing.

The Oskaloosa Fire Department was assisted by the Oskaloosa Police Department, and Mahaska County E911 Dispatchers.
