Oskaloosa Falls to Undefeated Grinnell in 43-0 Loss

The Oskaloosa Indians traveled to Grinnell on Friday, September 13, to face the undefeated Grinnell Tigers. The Tigers, now 3-0, continued their dominant season with a 43-0 victory over the Indians.

Oskaloosa struggled offensively throughout the game, totaling just 179 yards, including 90 passing and 89 rushing yards, while Grinnell’s defense forced two interceptions and held Oskaloosa scoreless. The Indians’ efforts to gain momentum were hindered by a lack of third-down conversions, going 0 for 9 in third-down attempts.

The game started with a challenging sequence for Oskaloosa, as Grinnell’s Josh Ringler intercepted Merek Padgett’s pass in the first quarter, returning it four yards for a touchdown, giving the Tigers an early 7-0 lead. Grinnell extended its lead with a 51-yard touchdown pass from Brady Coffman to Broc Heishman, making it 13-0 by the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter saw Grinnell continuing to dominate. Coffman connected with Ringler on a 29-yard touchdown pass, and later, Heishman caught another 20-yard pass from Coffman. Grinnell added one more touchdown before halftime, with Coffman scoring on a 10-yard rush, pushing the score to 33-0 at the break.

Oskaloosa’s defense worked hard to keep the game within reach, with standout performances from Parker Jordan, who had nine tackles, and Trey Parks, who contributed five tackles and one tackle for loss. Caden Johnson also recorded a sack, dropping Coffman for a seven-yard loss.

Grinnell’s offense continued to roll in the second half. The Tigers added a 23-yard field goal from Tyler Kostow in the third quarter and capped off their scoring with a 58-yard touchdown run by Beni Kiphanzu, making it 43-0. Oskaloosa struggled to respond offensively, despite efforts from AJ Walker, who rushed for 82 yards on 13 carries, including a 39-yard run, and Kayne Boender, who completed a 49-yard pass to Heavon Knox.

The Indians, now 1-2 on the season, will look to regroup as they return home next week. Grinnell remains unbeaten and continues to lead the conference with a perfect record.
