Oskaloosa 8th Grade Volleyball Teams Show Promise in Season Opener at Knoxville
The Oskaloosa 8th-grade volleyball teams kicked off their season in Knoxville, showing flashes of strong potential despite some tough losses. All four teams played hard-fought matches, each securing a win in at least one set.
A1 Team
The A1 team put up a strong fight, ultimately falling 1-2 in a three-set match. Taylen Parker led the team with four aces and five assists, while Ally Goodman contributed four aces and two kills. Isis Edwards added three aces, two kills, and a dig, and Sienna Stout had three kills and a dig as well. Aleigha Burton chipped in with an ace and an assist, and Gracie Fox and Maci Ridenour each recorded one ace. The team claimed the first set 21-13 but lost the next two, 16-21 and 15-21.
A2 Team
The A2 team also won one set out of three, battling Knoxville with scores of 9-21, 16-21, and a 21-16 victory in the third set. Kasie Deppe led with five aces, while Emma Ross added three aces. Emily Yang contributed two aces and a dig, and Alivia Vandenberg added two digs. Kayla Carey provided one ace and a kill, with Chloe Landgrebe and Kailynn Playle each adding an ace.
B1 Team
The B1 team showed resilience, improving with each set despite a 0-3 loss. Maya Sylvester led the team with eight aces, four kills, and an assist. Yoselin Gonzalez made an impact with five kills, and Zoila Keller added two aces. Brooke Boertje recorded an ace and a kill, and Zaelyn Claussen added a kill. The scores for the night were 12-21, 18-21, and 22-24, with the team pushing Knoxville to the brink in the final set.
B2 Team
The B2 team won one of its three games, posting scores of 8-21, 13-21, and 23-21. Leading the way for Oskaloosa were April Potter with four aces and a kill, and Taylor Wissler and Phylicia Brooks, who each contributed two aces and two kills. Violet Rust added an assist and a kill, while Bailey Sams chipped in with one ace.
The A1 and A2 teams will look to continue their strong start as they face Pella Christian at home on Monday, September 16.
