Oskaloosa. Opal Bequeaith, 96, of Oskaloosa, died Monday, June 27, 2011, at Northern Mahaska Nursing and Rehab in Oskaloosa. She was born March 21, 1915 in Mahaska County, the son of William Earl and Nellie Mae Garrett Stout. She graduated from the Sigourney High School with the class of 1934. Early on she taught school. On June 5, 1936, she was united in marriage to Glen Bequeaith at Chicago, and Glen died January 24, 1999. Following their marriage Opal stayed home to care for her family. She enjoyed being a wife, mom and grandma. She also enjoyed playing cards, especially Canasta, and Yatzee with her family.

Her family includes her two daughters: Patty Glenn of Albia and Ruth (& James) Turner of Marion; three sons: Dan (& Sue) Bequeaith of Rockford, Minnesota, Bob (& Judy) Bequeaith of New London, Missouri, and Raymond (& Sheryl) Bequeaith of Cedar Rapids; 18 grandchildren; and many great and great great grandchildren; a brother: Robert Stout of Inverness, Florida; a sister in law: Dorothy Brunt of Oskaloosa; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, Opal was preceded in death by her parents; a son: Ted Bequeaith; a grandson: Mike Bequeaith; a great granddaughter in infancy; three sisters: Helen Lisk, Lillian Bequeaith, and Neva Lippart; and three brothers: Raymond, Don, and Charlie Stout.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 1, 2011, at 1 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Jason Gutzmer officiating. Burial will be in the Friends Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Thursday after 12 noon in the Bates Funeral Chapel, and the family will be at the funeral chapel on Thursday from 6 – 8 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to Mahaska Hospice.
