OHS Orchestra Receives Honors At Iowa State Festival

The String Quartet of John Hammes, Colton Berg, Jason Beebe and Blake Allsup received a perfect score and the Outstanding Performance Award for their center.

The Oskaloosa High School Orchestra recently participated in the Iowa State Solo and Small Ensemble Festival in Indianola. Students received eleven Division I, three Division II and four Division III ratings. The String Quartet of John Hammes, Colton Berg, Jason Beebe and Blake Allsup received a perfect score and the Outstanding Performance Award for their center. The String Trio of Lisa Van Donselaar, Camme Barber and River Campbell also received a perfect score, as did Chamber Orchestra 2.

Other entries receiving Division I ratings include: Blake Allsup – cello solo, John Hammes – violin solo, Mark De Ronde – violin solo, Ellie Snyder – violin solo, String Duet, String Trio, String Quartet and Chamber Orchestra 1.

Division II ratings were earned by three String Trios. Division III ratings were earned by Maycie Stanbro – cello and three String quartets. There were no Division IV or V scores received. Division I is defined as superior – outstanding in nearly every way. Division II is an excellent performance, and Division III is a good performance.

Entries receiving Division I ratings include: Blake Allsup – cello solo, John Hammes – violin solo, Mark De Ronde – violin solo, Ellie Snyder – violin solo, String Duet, String Trio, String Quartet and Chamber Orchestra 1.
