OES Helps Clean The Earth And Enjoys The Last Months Of School!
This story was written by Oskaloosa Elementary School 5th Grade student Candace Allsup.
Yesterday at the Oskaloosa Elementary School it was the first day of Peace Week/Earth Week. Students wore peace signs or tie-dye for the first day. Today they are to wear their grade colors (5th grade- purple and so on).
Yesterday, as a sign of their support to Reduce Reuse Recycle, the students went outside to help pull weeds and pick up trash. Mrs.VanWaardhuizen’s class and Ms.Allen’s class went on the Hero Trail, the little park in front of the school, to pull weeds. They started early this morning at 10:00 a.m. They came back with a total of 9 full bags of weeds and garbage. They would have gone on into the community to clean but there aren’t any sidewalks in front of Santa Clara and it is illegal for them to have the children on the street or lawn by the road. The students are excited about the rest of Peace Week/Earth Week. Remember, April 22nd is Earth Day!
The students are also VERY excited because it is the last couple of months of school. This is the time of year that they get to go on their field trips. The 5th grade students have a points system where they have to have a certain number of points to go on their field trips, which start in May.The fifth grade class has 6 trips in one month. If any students do not behave themselves, they have to stay at school the day of the field trip and they will have a stack of work to do. If they stay at home that day, they aren’t allowed to go on the next field trip either. An exception will be made if they are sick and have a note signed by a doctor. The other grades don’t have a points system, but your child’s teacher may have a classroom system!
