October Is Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Oskaloosa, Iowa – With the swift movement of a pen, Oskaloosa Mayor Dave Krutzfeldt proclaimed October to be Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
The proclamation states that the City of Oskaloosa recognizes the importance of designating a time devoted to increasing the general public’s awareness of domestic violence. Domestic Violence affects every person in the City of Oskaloosa as a survivor or as a family member, significant other, neighbor or co-worker of a survivor.
It goes on to state, Oskaloosa’s domestic violence volunteer advocates and staff members promote domestic violence prevention by offering educational programs to schools, churches and civic groups as well as professional training to medical, mental health, law enforcement, education and criminal justice personnel regarding domestic violence issues.
Crisis Intervention Services requests public support and assistance as it continues to work toward a society where all women, children and men can live in peace, free from violence and exploitation.
