Minneapolis, Minn.–The William Penn wrestling team had a solid showing Saturday as several hundred grapplers hit the mats at the Augsburg Open.

The Open, which may arguably be the most competitive tournament WPU will enter all year, included 26 total weight classes in the Gold, Silver, and Bronze divisions.

Gold Summary

Five Statesmen won multiple matches in the Gold division, headlined by a third-place showing from Carey Cloud (So., Havelock, N.C., Physical Education). The sophomore was 3-1 at 149 pounds.

197-pounder Kyle Soderblom (So., Newton, Iowa, Biology) was also 3-1 with one fall to place fifth, while Joao Vicente (Fr., East Providence, R.I., Secondary Education) joined the 3-1 club (two falls) to win the consolation title at 133 pounds.

149-pounder Charlton Benjamin (So., Atlanta, Ga., Sociology) and 197-pounder Elson Civilma (So., Deerfield Beach, Fla., Communications) were both 2-2 to give the navy and gold depth at those weight classes. Civilma won once by both fall and major decision.

Silver Summary

141-pounder Brad Watson (Fr., Rolla, Wis., Physical Education) and heavyweight David Jones (Fr., Bryan, Texas, Industrial Technology) both won three of four matches to collect consolation titles. Jones won all by fall.

Tylor Pilcher (So., Fairfield, Iowa, Business Management) was victorious by fall at 174 pounds, while Brandon Blanchard (Jr., St. Louis, Mo., Sociology) defeated an opponent by major decision at 184.
