Moore, DeJong honored by Osky Optimists

Oskaloosa, Iowa – Two Oskaloosa Middle School students were honored recently by the Oskaloosa Optimist Club as Optimist Students of the Trimester. Jack Moore and Sienna DeJong earned the honor for the second trimester.
Middle school principal and Student of the Trimester chair Andy Hotek made the announcement and presented the students with their plaques. Oskaloosa optimist Club President Jeff Keep introduced the students during the breakfast event on April 4.
“As always we have several students who show leadership at the middle school,” said Hotek. “We observed these students in the classroom and in the hallways to see how they interact with their fellow students before making our selections.”
The Oskaloosa Optimist Club is a youth service organization. The club is open to adults and meets at 7.a.m. at Smokey Row on Wednesdays. The club honors middle school students after each trimester. Eighth grade students will be honored in June.
DeJong and Moore introduced family members who joined them for the presentation. Keep thanked the parents for their support of their children and serving as role models.
Other seventh grade students nominated by school faculty and staff included, Kaity Richmond, Claire Feichtner, Cara Roquet, Mary Yarkosky, and Natalia James. Also, Alexis Westercamp, Mason VanEnglenhoven, Connor Swim, Alexis Groet, Blake Allsup, Summer Smith, Annie Fitzpatrick, Faith Welch, Kiara Moyer.
The local club was formed in September 1993 and is associated with Optimist International.
