Oskaloosa, Iowa – Oskaloosa is going to be represented at this year’s Miss Iowa pageant. 25 year old Oskaloosan Jessica VerSteeg will be competing in the contest for the first time. Click here to find out more.
Although she is trying to become Miss Iowa — she spends most of her time now working on the east coast.
“Now I model full time in New York and Miami but still have a home here in Osky, so I come back for the holidays, and the summers, vacations, and times like this just to visit my family.” – Jessica VerSteeg
VerSteeg says modeling is getting her ready for a contest she otherwise would not have entered. It took encouragement from a friend, as well as a very personal reason before she decided to participate.
“And then I met Miss Iowa this year and she is very, very sweet. A lovely girl and she really inspired me to do it. Also, my mother is a breast cancer survivor and when I got the National Breast Cancer Foundation to sponsor me it just lit up my eyes and I really wanted to be a part of it.” – Jessica VerSteeg
VerSteeg is also sponsored locally by Mahaska Drug, State Farm agent Kelli Steil, and Myron and Connie Gordin. The Miss Iowa pageant will be held in Newton on October 13th and 14th. The winner will go onto compete for the Miss USA crown — win there, and then it’s off to the Miss Universe pageant. Should VerSteeg become Miss Iowa … she would be the first from Oskaloosa since Dianna Roberts won in 1973.
