Men’s Bowling Team, Two Individuals to Battle at Nationals

Oskaloosa–The Statesmen men’s bowling team and two individuals will seek national crowns this week as William Penn competes at the xbowling Intercollegiate Championships.

William Penn travels to Lincoln, Neb. for the 16-team tournament that runs from Thursday through Saturday at Sun Valley Lanes. The event begins with 24 Baker games that set up a double-elimination, best-of-seven-games bracket tournament.

The top four finishers from last month’s four sectionals will be facing off, including defending champion Webber International (Fla.). The Statesmen are one of three men’s teams from the Midwest Collegiate Conference as Mount Mercy and St. Ambrose will also represent the league.

Also joining the field is Calumet-St. Joseph (Ind.), Florida State, Fresno State (Calif.), Lindenwood (Mo.), Marian (Ind.), McKendree (Ill.), Midland (Neb.), Morehead State (Ky.), Notre Dame (Ohio), Robert Morris (Ill.), West Texas A&M, and William Paterson (N.J.).

WPU will be paced by MCC Player of the Year Cameron Foster (Jr., West Jordan, Utah, Business Management) and fellow all-MCC performer Brandon Barboza (So., Brick, N.J., Sociology).

Individually, Barboza and women’s bowler Breanne Underwood (Sr., Treynor, Iowa, Master’s of Business Leadership) will compete in the Intercollegiate Singles Championships. The singles competition, which includes 24 men and 16 women, begins Tuesday with qualifying. The top four men and women will compete in the semifinals and finals on Saturday.

The semifinals and finals of the Intercollegiate Singles Championships and the finals of the Intercollegiate Team Championships will be shown on CBS Sports Network in four one-hour shows every Friday at 10 p.m. (EST) starting May 3.
