Medical Condition Thought To Be Cause Of Accident

Mahaska County first responders rushed to the scene of a tractor striking a building call on Tuesday morning.

On Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at approximately 8:50 AM members of the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to 1833 Indian Way in reference to a farm tractor striking a farm building at that location.
Upon Deputies’ arrival it was discovered that this tractor was owned by the Mahaska County Secondary Roads Department. It was further discovered that the driver of this tractor was a Mahaska County Secondary Roads employee and was suffering from a medical condition.
This employee was extricated from the tractor, transported to the Mahaska Heath Partnership Emergency Room and air lifted to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, in critical condition.
It is estimated that the damage to this tractor was $5,000 and the damage to the farm building was $25,000. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted during this incident by the Oskaloosa Fire Department and the MHP ambulance service.
