Mary H. Sereg
Mary H. Sereg, 92, of Oskaloosa, went to Heaven Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at the Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice Serenity House. She was born July 1, 1919, at Lovilia, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Anna Pistatnik Bregar, Sr. On September 12, 1938, Mary was united in marriage to Albert Sereg at Mason City, and he died March 15, 1992. She was a homemaker, and longtime active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was a past president of the old Altar and Rosary Society. She spent the majority of her life in loving service to God, her family, and helping friends and countless others in time of need.
Her family includes her two sons, Philip Sereg of Oskaloosa and Timothy Sereg of Everett, Washington; a granddaughter whom they raised from birth, Maureen Groet of Oskaloosa; six other grandchildren: Mike Sereg, Deb Carlson, Steve Sereg, David Groet, Lynn Stefanik, and Jody Mitrisin; 14 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren; and a sister-in-Christ, Louise Aeschliman of Oskaloosa.
Besides her husband, Mary was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Dorothy Groet; a daughter in law: Carolyn Sereg; and four brothers: August, John, Albert, and Frank Bregar, Jr.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Monday, July 2, 2012, at 10 a.m. in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oskaloosa with the Reverend Jeff Belger officiating. Her earthly body will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery at Oskaloosa. There will be a Rosary recited Sunday, July 1, 2012, at 1 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel, with visitation with the family present immediately following from 1:20 – 4 p.m. A Christian Vigil Service will be held at the funeral chapel on Sunday at 4:10 p.m. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Mahaska Hospice Serenity House. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
