Maroons Extend Winning Steak At Pioneers Expense
Chicago, IL – The UChicago Maroons extended their winning record to 5-4 in a commanding 48-14 victory over the Grinnell Pioneers on November 4, 2023. The Maroons’ offense was in full swing at Rosenbloom Field, as they tallied a total of 571 offensive yards with a balanced attack through the air and on the ground.
Quarterback J. Ruff led the offensive surge, completing 19 of 35 passes for 262 yards and two touchdowns. His connection with receiver B. Kang, who caught a 16-yard touchdown pass, initiated the scoring. The ground game was equally potent, with R. Bommarito-Logan and K. James rushing for a combined 241 yards and four touchdowns, including a staggering 60-yard dash to the end zone by James in the third quarter.
On the defensive end, the Maroons were just as dominant. S. Sakashita and S. Kelly each contributed 10 tackles to halt the Pioneers’ drives. The special teams were not to be overshadowed, with W. Goodman converting 6 of his 7 extra-point attempts.
The Pioneers, despite the loss, showed resilience. Quarterback H. Baird connected with N. Smith for a 20-yard touchdown pass, and G. Woodhouse scrambled for a 13-yard touchdown rush. N. Rhinehart provided solid special teams play, completing all his PAT attempts.
The Maroons look to carry this momentum into their next game, as they continue to make a strong case for a postseason bid. The Pioneers will aim to regroup and finish their season on a high note.
