Mardell L. Allgood, 97, of Oskaloosa, died Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa.
Mardell was born June 7, 1915, at Newton, Iowa, the daughter of George Clinton and Minnie Broderson Preston. On June 14, 1934, she was united in marriage to Arthur W. “Tod” Allgood, at Newton, Iowa; Tod died June 12, 1995. Mardell worked for many years as a telephone operator for several independent phone companies. Later she went to work for Iowa Power and Light and retired from there in 1982. On December 19, 1999, she was united in marriage to Harold “Buck” Dusenberry at Oskaloosa; Buck died July 11, 2005. She was a member of the Newton Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling and looking for antiques. Mardell also looked forward to trips to Prairie Meadows and Meskwaki.
Her family includes her daughter, Joy Bridenstine of Urbandale; three daughters in law, Carol Vance of Oskaloosa, Barbara Allgood of Eddyville and Erma Allgood of Des Moines; nine grandchildren; many great grandchildren, and several great great grandchildren; two step children, Clarence Richard (& Charlene) Dusenberry and Frances (& John R.) Stek all of Oskaloosa; a very close friend, Darlene Freeman of Urbandale; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to both of her husbands, Mardell was preceded in death by her parents; three sons, Dean Allgood, Gene Allgood, and Ray Allgood; a grandson: Rick Allgood; a stepson, Art Allgood, Jr.; three brothers, Carl Preston, Lewis Preston and Royal Preston; and a sister, Bessie Bleakney.
Graveside funeral service and burial will be held Friday, April 19, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa.
A procession will form and leave from the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa at 1:45 p.m. Friday for those wishing to attend the graveside service. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation with the family will be at the funeral chapel from 1 p.m. Friday until 1:45 at which time they will depart for the cemetery.
