Manion, Olson receive Iowa Conference weekly recognition

PELLA— Central College women’s soccer forward Erin Manion (sophomore, Delafield, Wis., Kettle Moraine HS) was the Iowa Conference female athlete of the week and the offensive player of the week while Central College football linebacker Tyler Olson (senior, Mapleton, Minn., Maple River HS) was the league’s defensive player of the week.

Manion registered Central’s first and last goals of the game against Wartburg in a 3-2 Dutch win Saturday. She attempted six total shots and put three on frame. The sophomore striker leads the Dutch with seven goals this season.

Central ventures to Cedar Rapids Wednesday night for an Iowa Conference match against Coe College at 5 p.m.

Olson racked up 13 tackles in Central’s 35-17 win over Simpson Saturday. He had an interception in the fourth quarter on Simpson’s offensive drive and added a first quarter pass break up. He was credited with two crucial tackles during Central’s goal line stand in the third quarter that swung momentum in the favor of the Dutch.

The conference season continues Saturday at home against Wartburg College. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Ron and Joyce Schipper Stadium.
