Man Accused Of Dragging Wife With Car
Mahaska County, Iowa – An Ottumwa man is facing two counts after an incident this week.
Kelly Ray Wilkens, 302 N. Van Buren in Ottumwa, is accused of the crime of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Aggravated Misdemeanor) as well as Domestic Abuse/Assault Causing Bodily Injury (Serious Misdemeanor).
Law enforcement was called the residence at 2561 Ashland Avenue, near Tracy Iowa, at approximately 11:30 am on June 17th, where Kelly Wilkens had allegedly assaulted his wife, Lisa Wilkins, “Injuring her by dragging her with the family car.”
According to the sheriff’s affidavit:
A 911 caller “Stated that Kelly Ray Wilkens was dragging his wife and the property with the family car and repeatedly punching her about the head and facial area. Kelly Ray Wilkens fled the area prior to my (Deputy) arrival. In speaking with Lisa Ronyn Wilkens I noticed her injuries consistent with what the caller/witness described. Lisa Wilkens had cuts and red marks on both knees. All over both hands and wrists. I (Deputy) also noted a fresh, red bruise behind her left ear.”
Wilkens’ preliminary hearing is set for July 8th at 10:30 am.
A criminal charge is merely a criminal charge and not an indication of guilt. All suspects should be considered innocent until proven guilty.
