Mahaska Health Partnership to host Free Women’s Breast Health Night

OSKALOOSA – Mahaska Health Partnership will host a Free Women’s Breast Health Night on Tuesday, Oct. 18 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at the Nazarene Church Youth Center in Oskaloosa.
“More than 2,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in Iowa this year,” MHP Director of Radiology Julie Hartke said. “The Free Women’s Breast Health Night is an opportunity for women to learn more about the disease.”
According to the American Cancer Society, the chance of a woman having invasive breast cancer some time during her life is about one in eight. Breast cancer death rates are going down which is most likely the result of early detection and improved treatment options.
“The earlier breast cancer is caught, the easier it is to treat,” Hartke explained. “If a woman checks for changes in her breasts regularly and has her annual screenings, our hope is that cancer can be detected sooner.”
The Free Women’s Breast Health Night will be held on Oct. 18 and is scheduled from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at the Nazarene Church Youth Center, located at 140 Gateway Drive in Oskaloosa (across the street from Wal-Mart). The evening will feature valuable information provided by area healthcare professionals, fabulous door prizes and hors d’oeuvres.
“We try to make the Free Women’s Breast Health Night a fun evening for women to enjoy each other, have a great time and get valuable education,” Hartke said.
