Oskaloosa, Iowa – Jeff Foster is the lone Democrat candidate in the primary race for Mahaska County Supervisor.

Foster says he’s a fifth generation Mahaska County resident, who is married to Kari Foster, Veterans Affairs Director for Mahaska County. He has 3 kids, one of who is now in college and the youngest will be in 2nd grade.

Foster is employed locally for a nationwide delivery service.

Foster, who is a current member of the New Sharon City Council, says that he’s happy about the accomplishments the City of New Sharon has made, “and I feel like I’m ready to give my knowledge and expertise to the next level in the county.”

Foster said that with Oskaloosa being the county seat, he believes that many times the smaller towns are not represented at the county level. “I want to make sure they have a voice,” says Foster.

“Maintaining the budget is obviously the biggest issue,” Foster says about the challenges facing Mahaska County.

As far as Foster’s vision for the county, “Make sure we are on the process of promoting growth. We don’t want to hastily make decisions, and blindly do things that might come back to hurt us. If we make well informed decisions, I feel we can get that done.”

Those decision involve making sure that roads are good. Making sure the by-pass is something that needs to be done.

“Making the hard decision,” Foster says, is one of his best attributes. “I found that’s what I do in New Sharon, and I’m going to bring this to the county level. Again, I do not like to make hasty decisions.”

“You need to make sure you do the research,” says Foster. “Don’t just go with the flow.”

“Obviously you’re making decisions for the taxpayer and all the residents in the county, so you want to make sure you do that vigilance,” says Foster.

“I know what hard work is,” says Foster in closing. “You only get out of something what you put into it.”
