Mahaska County Relay for Life Plan Fund Raising Event
The Mahaska County Relay for Life committee is planning a new event to help raise funds to fight cancer this year. The group is organizing its inaugural Ladies Night for Friday, March 25, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at Kinsmen’s Keep in Oskaloosa.
“We were looking for a unique way to raise awareness of cancer while bringing something fun into the community,” said Glenda Booy, one of the organizers of the event.
The event is open to all ladies and will feature hors d’oevres by Grate Expectations and a wine tasting event by Tassel Ridge Winery and CB Liquor. Non-alcoholic alternatives will be available, and wrist bands will be issued at the door to make the event safe for ladies of all ages.
Numerous vendors have been invited to the event, offering information and demonstrations on products geared toward women, products such as jewelry, photography, cosmetics, home decorating, handbags, and much more.
Speaking of handbags, one of the highlights of the evening will be a Purses with a Purpose auction. Many purses, including designer handbags like Coach, will be up for auction, all to raise funds to help fight cancer.
“Here’s a chance for women to buy a designer handbag without the designer price, and the funds go to help a wonderful charity,” said Debbie Doty, another event organizer. “Plus, many of the handbags will be stuffed with surprises, but they won’t know what the surprise is until after they win the bag.”
Area beauticians have teamed up to provide free makeovers to some lucky ladies. The winning ladies will be whisked off during the event for a free makeover and returned before the end of the evening to show off their new looks.
For added fun, ladies are encouraged to wear their favorite hats to this elegant event. Prizes will be awarded for the most fun and unique hat.
Tickets for the event are $20 and are on sale now at Mahaska Title, MidwestOne Bank and Valley Bank. All proceeds from the event benefit Mahaska County Relay for Life.
