Mahaska CERT Team shows their spirit of service
Mahaska County’s CERT Team showed their spirit of service and desire to help and be apart of our community. When flooding forced Mary Furnalds from her home, she left nearly everything behind.
Yesterday afternoon and evening, members of the CERT team went to her aid. Once the water had receded from her home, it was evident that most everything had been destroyed.
Jim Walker a CERT team member and leader of the team had this to say “There was a total of 14 people helped move items out of the flood stricken home of Mary Furnalds. Love Inc provided Emergency Management with a large truck to load her items up and move to storage areas. The Cert teams work well together. We worked hard and had laughs among the destruction of the water to her home. Neighbors even joined in and help gather her items.”
So all in all, the team worked about 4 hours on the project, building team skills and relationships along the way, that one day might well be needed on a future event. Jamey Robinson, Mahaksa County Emergency Management Coordinator had nothing but praise for the team “I can not thank my CERT team enough for all they have done during the recent flooding. They have been a huge assest for Mahaska County.”
If your interested in CERT want to know more about it, or other forms of volunteer service, or want to help Mary Furnadls, I would encourage you to contact Jamey either at his office phone 641.672.1209 or the Emergency Management Wesbsite and he will be more than happy to point you in the right direction.
