WARRIORS ADVANCE TO DISTRICT TITLE MATCH

November 01, 2026

Godfrey, IL – Freshman Kieara Trujillo-Garcia’s (Rio Rancho, NM/Rio Rancho) second half goal proved to be enough for the Indian Hills Women’s Soccer squad as the Warriors advanced to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Women’s Soccer Central District Championship with a 1-0 win over No. 13 nationally ranked Lewis & Clark Community College (IL) on Sunday.

The Warriors upended the Trailblazers to punch their ticket to the District title match for the first time in program history. Indian Hills’ win over Lewis & Clark snapped a three-game postseason losing streak to the Trailblazers who had eliminated the Warriors in each of the last three seasons. The victory also halts a five-game losing skid for the Warriors and also serves as the program’s third victory over a ranked opponent this year.

The two sides squared off on Sunday for the second time this season after Lewis & Clark took a 3-0 victory in Ottumwa on October 3. Both squads played to a scoreless opening half as sophomore keeper Annabelle Combes (Marseille, France/Tezenas du Montcel) stood tall in net for the Warriors.

While the offensive opportunities were limited for the Warriors, Indian Hills finally hit paydirt in the 66th minute as Trujillo-Garcia broke free past the Trailblazer backline. The freshman received a well-placed touch from Pascal Espejo (Calle Larga, Chile/Los Andes) and in turn fired a strike to beat the Lewis & Clark keeper for the go-ahead goal.

Trujillo-Garcia’s goal proved to hold as the game-winning tally as the Warriors posted their third shutout of the year.

Combes stopped five shots in net for the Warriors while securing the complete-game shutout. The victory is Combes’ 17th career win at Indian Hills, tied for second all-time in school history.

With the win, Indian Hills will now advance to the District title match Saturday, November 7 against conference foe Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, IA with a time yet to be determined. The Reivers defeated Southwestern Illinois College Sunday afternoon to advance to the championship game against the Warriors.
