Lyle Shafranek, 67 of Keswick, died Monday, June 25, 2018 at the Sigourney Care Center. Lyle Dean Shafranek son of Max and Ester Erickson Shafranek was born September 19, 1950 in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Lyle was a 1968 graduate of Tri-County High School. He later received a degree in Agricultural Education from Iowa State University.

Lyle was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Dvorak June 30, 1973 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Chelsea.

Lyle began teaching Agricultural Education at Roland Story Community School in Story City, Iowa. After three years of teaching, Lyle returned home and joined the Shafranek Brothers’ farming operation. In 1992, he became a Golden Harvest Seed dealer. Lyle received his Federal Firearms License in 1995 and began selling firearms through The Boar’s Nest. He was an Agricultural Instructor at Sigourney High School where he taught Ag, Environmental Science, and welding.

Lyle enjoyed being around people and helping when and where he could. He took a great deal of pride in teaching young farmers. Often Lyle bragged about his FFA and welding students. He was quick to remind anyone he was not teaching teenagers but young men and women.

Lyle was a member of the Keokuk County Expo Board, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Ruritans, Keswick Fire Department, Lion’s Club, and a life-time member of the NRA and North American Hunting Club. He was a Hunter Education Instructor for over twenty years and enjoyed judging at the Keokuk County Fair.

He is survived by a son, Dan (& Lea Ann) Shafranek of Frisco, TX; two daughters: Andrea (& Eric) Coble of Keswick and Terri Smith of DeWitt; six grandchildren: Trey, Ty, Graci, Isaac, Finnley, and Solomon; a sister, Mary (& Bob) Zuber of Amana; and an aunt, Lillie Shafranek.

Lyle is preceded in death by his parents; two uncles, Charles and Rex Shafranek; and an aunt, Betty Jean Shafranek.

Funeral services will begin at 10:00 am on Friday, June 29, 2018 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in What Cheer.
Burial will be in the Sorden Cemetery near Webster.
Visitation will begin at noon on Thursday, with family present from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a local FFA Chapter or to Hunters Education.
