Louise Brummel
(Bonnie) Louise Brummel, 94, of Oskaloosa, died Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at the Oskaloosa Care Center. She was born July 11, 1917, in Mahaska County, the daughter of Bonnie Louis and Lenore White Thatcher. She graduated from the Oskaloosa High School. Following graduation she taught in a one room country school in Mahaska County. On December 29, 1937, she was united in marriage to Lester Brummel at Lancaster, Missouri. Lester died on December 11, 1994. Following their marriage Louise stayed home to care for her family. Once all of her children were in school she began work at the Mahaska County Hospital as a nurse’s aide, she especially enjoyed working in the birthing center and caring for the new babies. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa where she was active in King’s Daughters and Christian Women’s Fellowship; she also taught adult Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed painting ceramics and serving as a Hospice volunteer.
Her family includes her son and his wife, Dr. Lee and Jacquelin Brummel of Dallas Texas; a son in law: Claude Zylstra of Pella; a daughter in law: Charlene Brummel of Davenport; 11 grandchildren, Christopher Brummel, Theodore Brummel, David Brummel, Elizabeth Brummel, John Brummel, Jeff Brummel, Janet Miller, Tom Zylstra, Tim Zylstra, Jennifer Skinner, and Sara Acker; 22 great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Kenneth Brummel; two daughters, Judy Zylstra and Marilyn Bye; a grandson, Jason Bye; two sisters, Kathryn Wilson and Dorothy Grant; and a brother, Homer Thatcher.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at 2 p.m. in the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa with Reverends Michael Omundson and Andrea Brownlee officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Monday after 12 noon, in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 Monday evening to greet friends and relatives.
