Beacon. Lois A. Houser, 78, of Beacon, died Friday, March 25, 2011, at the Oskaloosa Care Center in Oskaloosa. She was born Sunday, January 1, 1933, in Monroe County, the daughter of Floyd and Hazel Hoit Wolver. On February 4, 1951, she was united in marriage to Merle E. Houser at Moulton, Iowa, and he died May 10, 1985. Following marriage she stayed at home to raise her family. She enjoyed gardening, baking, nature, camping and bird watching. Most of all she loved her family.

She is survived by her three sons and their wives: Rick and Carol Houser of Beacon, Dennis and Cathy Houser of New Sharon, Alan and Joleen Houser of Eddyville; a daughter and her husband: Sheryl and Bruce VerSteegh of Rose Hill; 8 grandchildren: Carrie, Cory (& Jamie), Matthew Houser, Devin (& Jessica), Nicholas and Stephanie Houser and Mark and Molly Ver Steegh; 5 great grandchildren: Ashton and Lilyann Hartwig, Peyton, Madison, and Michael Houser; a brother: Estel (& Rita) Wolver of Moravia; 3 sisters: LaVaugh Wickencamp of Oskaloosa, Lila (& Roland) Singley of Moulton and Lorna (& Duane) Oswalt of Newton; and two sisters in law: Dorothy Wolver of Indianola and Annette Wolver of Eddyville.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a sister: Lucille Curl; and 4 brothers: Ernest, Marvin, Melvin and Edwin Wolver.

Funeral services for Lois Houser will be held Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at 1 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with the Pastor Dwayne Poe officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Visitation will begin Monday after 10 a.m. at Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel on Monday from 5 – 7 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to Mahaska Hospice.
