Linda Shappell

Linda Kay Shappell, 63, of Oskaloosa passed from this life to be with her Savior on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, while being cared for at the Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. She was born August 2, 1948, at Albia, Iowa, the daughter of Cloyd and Bonnie Dannels Lenox. She graduated from the Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1966. On March 23, 1974, she was united in marriage to Lloyd H. Shappell at Oskaloosa. Lloyd died November 27, 2010. She worked at Ideal Manufacturing for five years, she then decided to stay home to care for her family. She enjoyed sewing, canning, and refinishing furniture. Linda’s faith was very important to her she enjoyed reading the bible and was a very active member of the First Assembly of God Church in Oskaloosa. Linda served the church in several capacities including: Missionette Leader for 20 years, nursery director, creating bulletin boards throughout the church, teaching Sunday School, volunteering in the office and taking care of Sunday morning coffee time. She delighted in spending time with her family and caring for her grandchildren.

Her family includes, a son Jeffery Shappell of Oskaloosa; two daughters: Jennifer Shappell of Ottumwa and Michelle Shappell of Beacon; two brothers and their wives: Jerry and Donna Lenox and Terry and Ann Lenox all of Oskaloosa; four sisters: Barbara Johnson and Donna (& Jim) Tylkowski all of Oskaloosa, Sheryl (& Rodney) Playle of New Sharon, and Karen (& Eddie) Hostetler of Oklahoma; two brothers in law; a sister in law; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; an infant grandson, two brothers in law, and two sisters in law.

A memorial service will be held Friday, October 7, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. in the First Assembly of God Church in Oskaloosa with Reverend Michael Dotson officiating. As was Linda’s wish she has been cremated and no visitation is planned. Burial of the cremated remains will be in the Forest Cemetery. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Family.
