I am writing to introduce myself, Abu Ibrahim, and announce my candidacy for the open City Council seat in Ward 4. I may have grown up in the bustling streets of Boston, but I have found a home here in Oskaloosa. For over 8 years, I’ve immersed myself in our vibrant city, meeting incredible people, and becoming enraptured with its spirit.

My vision for Oskaloosa is clear: let’s maximize our potential. I believe we have plenty of opportunities to grow economically, culturally, and with our infrastructure. We can leverage partnerships with the Chamber of Commerce, Oskaloosa Schools, William Penn University, our local businesses, and city departments to achieve this growth.

Improving communication and engagement between the city council and the residents is crucial. In today’s day and age with online platforms like Teams or Zoom, and social media to reach everyone there should be no excuse for us to get communications that are timely and informative. Further, transparency to the citizens is a priority.

Economic development is critical to our longevity. I believe there may be opportunities to incentivize businesses to set up shop here in Oskaloosa, which would attract new businesses while supporting existing ones.

Infrastructure improvements are another area of focus. I believe that Oskaloosa needs to take a solid look at infrastructure and make the necessary appropriations to address them.

I’m not just running for office; I’m running to be your advocate. Oskaloosa deserves a representative who actively listens, who understands the challenges we face, and who works tirelessly to address them. Let’s do more than talk, let’s take action.

Thank you for considering my vision for Oskaloosa.

Sincerely,

Abu Ibrahim
